What this course aims to achieve

Acquire the methodological foundations needed to support prevention according to the requirements applicable to the organisation.

Three days to take on the health and safety lead role: framing the job, running prevention day to day and reporting to management what matters.

Key challenges

  • The safety lead often has neither line authority nor dedicated time: they must persuade without being able to order.
  • Being appointed does not make them liable in place of the employer, but a poorly defined role exposes them.
  • Without simple indicators, prevention stays invisible to management.

  • Frame duties, limits and resources with management.
  • Spot a workstation’s risks through observation and listening to operators.
  • Run prevention: instructions, toolbox talks, information feedback.
  • Follow actions and a few simple indicators.

  1. 1The lead’s duties, limits and interfaces: management, supervisors, occupational health, staff representatives.
  2. 2Spotting a workstation’s risks: observation, interviews, walk-rounds.
  3. 3Facilitation: toolbox talks, instructions, communicating with supervisors.
  4. 4Reading accidents and near-misses.
  5. 5Following actions and simple indicators.
  6. 6Building a personal roadmap.

  • Supervisors and technicians involved in prevention

  • No technical prerequisite.

Presentation of the personal roadmap.

Scope of application

The health and safety lead role exists, under varying titles, across several countries and regulatory frameworks; appointment is not a general authorisation, and duties and resources depend on locally applicable requirements.
