In a nutshell

What this course aims to achieve

Identify the classification of hazardous materials, intervene safely and limit spreading

One day to respond to a hazardous liquid or solid leak: protecting oneself, containing, alerting.

Key challenges

  • Identify the product before acting: an inappropriate response worsens the leak or injures the responder.
  • Containing the leak to avoid soil and water pollution is as urgent as protecting people.

Learning objectives

  • Use extinguishing and protective equipment suited to the situation.
  • Apply intervention procedures safely for oneself and the team.

Detailed programme

  1. 1Fire phenomenon, extinguishing methods and protective equipment.
  2. 2Practical simulations suited to the level and risk targeted.

Target audience

  • In-house emergency response team members (ESI) and staff designated for this role.

Prerequisites

  • Physical fitness and, depending on the module, validation of a prior level — to be checked before enrolment.

Learning methods

In-person training, practical simulations on a training ground.

Learning assessment

Assessed practical simulation.

Scope of application

The equipment and organisation level of in-house response teams depends on the risks, site, sector and locally applicable requirements.
