In a nutshell

What this course aims to achieve

Respond safely to a fire using the appropriate equipment, techniques and extinguishing methods

Four days for the second-response team member at an industrial site: protective gear, hoses, breathing apparatus and team manoeuvres.

Key challenges

  • The team member works in heavy gear with breathing apparatus, in heat and smoke: endurance and air management matter as much as technique.
  • Intervention is done in pairs or teams: a misunderstood order or mistimed action endangers everyone.
  • The industrial site adds its own hazards: products, energies, tanks, networks.

Learning objectives

  • Kit up and use protective equipment and breathing apparatus.
  • Lay hoses and manoeuvre as a team.
  • Recognise an industrial site’s particular hazards.
  • Apply the responder’s safety rules.

  1. 1Role of the second-response team member within the site’s emergency organisation.
  2. 2Personal protective response equipment.
  3. 3Breathing apparatus: checks, use, air management.
  4. 4Attack equipment: nozzles, hoses, deployments.
  5. 5Pair and team manoeuvres.
  6. 6Scenarios on real or simulated fires.

Target audience

  • Staff designated as second-response team members at an industrial site

Prerequisites

  • Medical fitness for response work and breathing apparatus, to be checked with the employer or occupational physician.

Learning methods

Highly practical in-person training on training grounds and fires.

Learning assessment

Practical assessment of manoeuvres and equipment use.

Scope of application

The course does not replace medical fitness or the employer’s authorisation, and does not make the person a firefighter. The regulatory framework described is French; obligations applicable in Benin or another country differ and must be checked with the local authority or operator.
