What this course aims to achieve

Maintain your trainer skills and identify new technical, regulatory and standards developments

Two days maintaining trainer competence: going back over the technical actions, comparing one's delivery practice with others', and taking in the technical, regulatory and standards developments since the initial course.

Key challenges

An in-house trainer drifts without noticing: repeating the same session, they pass on their own shortcuts and approximations rather than the original content.
Firefighting equipment changes — extinguishing agents, hardware, lithium batteries on the premises — and a trainer who has not updated their content teaches instructions that have become wrong.
The refresher is the only occasion on which an in-house trainer is themselves observed. It is where the delivery faults nobody mentions get corrected.

Practising in-house first-response and evacuation trainers
Trainers whose last course was several years ago

Prerequisites

Holding the first-response and evacuation train-the-trainer qualification
Having delivered sessions since the initial course

Learning methods

Two days face-to-face, with one observed delivery per participant

Fire ground and first-response equipment available

Learning assessment

Observed delivery assessed against a teaching grid

Validation test on the updated knowledge

Scope of application

Maintenance of in-house trainer competence. The refresher interval is set by the employer, who remains responsible for appointing their trainers. The course confers no training-provider accreditation.
