In a nutshell

What this course aims to achieve

Apply an RCCI methodology to motor land vehicles

Three days to investigate the causes of a vehicle fire: electrical circuits, fuels, overheating, deliberate acts.

Key challenges

  • A burnt vehicle concentrates very varied ignition sources and a lot of combustible material in a small volume.
  • The fire’s chronology is hard to reconstruct on a fully burnt vehicle.

Learning objectives

  • Apply a structured methodology for investigating the causes of a fire.
  • Document findings and draft substantiated conclusions.

Detailed programme

  1. 1Investigation methodology, and evidence collection and preservation.
  2. 2Analysing evidence and drafting the findings report.

Target audience

  • Experts, technicians and fire-prevention professionals.

Prerequisites

  • Prerequisites (experience, previous pathway modules) depending on the module sought — to be checked before enrolment.

Learning methods

In-person training alternating methodological input and case studies.

Learning assessment

Case study and, depending on the module, issuance of a certificate of competence.

Scope of application

The evidentiary value of an RCCI investigation and its context of use (insurance, legal) depend on the country and context concerned; they must be checked with competent stakeholders.
