What this course aims to achieve

Continue to respond effectively to an accident situation

A one-day course maintaining and updating occupational first-aider competence. It revisits the practical actions, takes in changes to the referential, and renews the certificate's validity.

Key challenges

  • A first-aid action not repeated degrades within months, starting with the depth of chest compressions and the order of priority when examining a casualty.
  • First-aid recommendations change. A first aider trained several years ago sometimes applies a protocol that is no longer current.
  • The refresher is also the only occasion on which a company's first aiders come together and test their internal arrangements against reality.

Learning objectives

  • Revisit all the first-aid actions in the referential
  • Take in changes to the recommendations and the referential
  • Bring one's knowledge of the company's emergency arrangements up to date
  • Renew the validity of one's certificate

  1. 1Review of the incidents dealt with since the last course
  2. 2Changes to the referential and to first-aid recommendations
  3. 3Revisiting the actions: protect, examine, alert, give care
  4. 4Cardiac arrest and defibrillation: full protocol revisited
  5. 5The prevention side: spotting and reporting dangerous situations
  6. 6Scenarios based on the company's current risks
  7. 7Internal emergency arrangements: updates and observed gaps

Target audience

  • Holders of the occupational first-aider certificate
  • First aiders whose certificate is approaching expiry

Prerequisites

  • Holding the occupational first-aider certificate
  • Ability to perform the practical actions

Learning methods

One day face-to-face, essentially practical

Simulation equipment and training defibrillator provided

Learning assessment

Continuous certifying assessment on the referential's competences

Renewal of the certificate on success

Scope of application

A competence maintenance and updating session delivered in accordance with the scheme's national referential. The interval and renewal conditions are set by that referential and confirmed at enrolment. An expired certificate requires the pathway to be resumed under the conditions the scheme provides.
