What this course aims to achieve

Apply an SST risk-assessment methodology, carry out your role within the CSE and the CSSCT, and improve the prevention of workplace accidents and occupational illnesses

A five-day programme for elected representatives with health, safety and working conditions duties: risk assessment method, conducting inspections and investigations, and actually exercising the body's powers.

Key challenges

An elected representative has real powers — inspections, investigations, recourse to expert opinion, the right to raise an alert — and often exercises none of them, for want of knowing how to invoke them.
A body that confines itself to commenting on the indicators management presents has no purchase. Its capacity to act comes from going to see for itself.
A post-accident investigation drifts towards finding someone to blame. Causal analysis methods exist precisely to stop that happening.
Representatives and management work on the same facts with different aims: training does not remove that disagreement, it makes it arguable.

Prerequisites

Being elected or appointed to the body
No technical prerequisites

Learning methods

Five days face-to-face, with an inspection and an investigation carried out in practice

Work on the establishment's real documents when delivered in-house

Inspection and investigation checklists provided to participants

Learning assessment

An inspection report and an accident analysis produced and presented

Scope of application

The course duration, the entitlement to it, how it is funded and how often it is renewed are set by the applicable labour law, which varies by country and by company headcount. The body's exact duties and the headcount thresholds must be checked against that law. Access conditions are confirmed at enrolment.
