Understanding ISO 45001 in 3 minutes

ISO 45001:2018 is the first international standard dedicated to occupational health and safety management systems. It replaces OHSAS 18001 and follows the common structure shared by all ISO standards.

ISO 45001:2018 is the first international standard dedicated to occupational health and safety (OH&S) management systems. Published in March 2018, it definitively replaces OHSAS 18001 and adopts the High Level Structure (HLS) shared by all new ISO management standards.

Why this standard?

Every year, more than 2.3 million people worldwide die as a result of workplace accidents or occupational diseases. This alarming figure led ISO to develop a universal framework that enables organisations of any size and in any sector to build a structured approach to preventing occupational risks.

The key requirements

The standard is built on the PDCA cycle (Plan-Do-Check-Act) and requires, among other things, visible commitment from top management, active worker participation, rigorous identification and assessment of risks and opportunities, measurable OH&S objectives, and appropriate operational controls.

How IFECARM GROUP supports you

Our team of qualified auditors performs a gap analysis to establish your current level of maturity against ISO 45001 requirements. We then build a realistic, prioritised action plan with you, all the way to the third-party certification audit.

In summary

ISO 45001 is not yet another administrative burden: it is a management tool that reduces accidents, secures your legal obligations and strengthens the trust of your employees and clients. A one-hour assessment is enough to measure how far you still have to go.
