What this course aims to achieve

Understand the challenges of natural hazards

A short online module explaining which natural hazards an activity is exposed to, and why these events, individually rare, halt a business more often than industrial accidents do.

Key challenges

  • A natural hazard does not strike one site alone: it cuts access, power and suppliers at the same time, which no isolated accident scenario does.
  • A site's exposure is publicly documented in most countries, and almost never consulted before setting up there.

  • Distinguish hazard, vulnerability and risk
  • Identify the main natural hazards liable to affect an activity
  • Know where to find information on one's own site's exposure
