In a nutshell

What this course aims to achieve

To raise awareness and provide information on chemical risks and the use of PPE

A ninety-minute session giving employees the basic reflexes around chemicals: reading a label, knowing where to find the safety data sheet, and wearing the protection specified for the product they handle.

Key challenges

Hazard pictograms are recognised by sight and rarely understood: many operators confuse a health hazard with a flammability hazard.
Decanting into an unlabelled container is the most ordinary and the most dangerous act in a workshop.
A glove unsuited to the product gives a false sense of safety worse than no glove at all, because the product stays in contact with the skin.

Learning objectives

Read a chemical label and draw from it the precautions to take
Locate the safety data sheet and find the useful information in it
Select and wear the protective equipment suited to the product
React to a spill or accidental contact

Scope of application

An awareness session contributing to the information and training of workers on chemical risks. It does not replace the company's own chemical risk assessment, nor the specific training owed for carcinogenic, mutagenic or reprotoxic agents.
