In a nutshell

What this course aims to achieve

Identify ATEX requirements for the design, modification and management phases of your production processes

How to account for explosion risk from the design of a process onwards, rather than discovering it at commissioning when everything is already installed.

Key challenges

  • An ATEX non-conformity found at commissioning costs a hundred times more than at the design stage.
  • A process change can shift the zones without anyone noticing.

Learning objectives

  • Identify the ATEX requirements applicable to an industrialisation project.
  • Build zoning and equipment selection into the design.
  • Manage the ATEX impact of process changes.
  • Compile and maintain the supporting documentation.

Detailed programme

  1. 1Requirements of Directives 1999/92/EC and 2014/34/EU applied to projects.
  2. 2Accounting for explosion risk at the project's different stages.
  3. 3How zoning affects the choice of equipment and processes.
  4. 4Change management and zoning review.
  5. 5Project documentation and justification of choices.

Target audience

  • Methods and industrialisation engineers and technicians
  • Project managers and production managers

Prerequisites

  • Knowledge of ATEX regulatory fundamentals.

Learning methods

Technical input and work on projects brought by participants.

Learning assessment

Assessment through an industrialisation case study.

Scope of application

Directive 2014/34/EU governs the design and placing on the market of equipment for explosive atmospheres; Directive 1999/92/EC governs its use. Requirements outside the European Union must be checked.
