What this course aims to achieve

Raise awareness of lead-related risks in the workplace

A short awareness module on lead hazards at work: where lead is still encountered, how it enters the body, and which simple habits reduce exposure.

Key challenges

  • Lead gives no warning: with no smell and no immediate irritation, exposure is not felt at the time and accumulates in the body.
  • Contamination continues away from the workstation: hands, clothing and vehicles carry lead home, where it reaches the family.

Learning objectives

  • Recognise the work situations that still involve exposure to lead
  • Identify how lead enters the body
  • Apply the hygiene rules that break the contamination chain

Detailed programme

  1. 1Where lead remains: old paint, stripping, soldering, metal recovery, shooting ranges
  2. 2Routes of exposure: inhaling dust and fumes, ingestion via the hands
  3. 3Health effects and the principle of biological monitoring
  4. 4Protective habits: extraction, respiratory protection, hand washing, separating work clothing

  • Employees liable to work on lead-containing surfaces or materials
  • Construction, renovation and metal recovery staff

Scope of application

An awareness module. It does not constitute the training or the enhanced individual health monitoring required for workers exposed to a carcinogenic, mutagenic or reprotoxic agent, nor the pre-works survey, which is carried out by certified operators.
