What this course aims to achieve

Preventing risks related to chemical products

A one-day course for those who have to organise chemical risk prevention rather than merely protect themselves: product inventory, exposure assessment, choice of control measures and verification that they work.

Key challenges

A chemical inventory goes out of date within months: with no procedure for admitting new products, the risk assessment describes a workshop that no longer exists.
The heaviest exposures do not come from the most hazardous products, but from ordinary products used for long periods in a poorly ventilated room.
Ventilation that was installed and never checked is counted as a control measure in the assessment, when it no longer captures anything.

3Assessment by work situation: duration, frequency, quantity, ventilation, overlapping activities
4Carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic agents: the enhanced regime
5Substitution: method, limits, technical and economic trade-offs
6Engineering control: closed process, extraction at source, general ventilation
7Personal protection: selection, actual use, maintenance, limits
8Verifying effectiveness: ventilation checks, atmospheric measurements, indicators
9Storage, incompatibilities and chemical waste management

Prerequisites

Knowledge of the activities and products used in one's own establishment
No prior knowledge of chemistry required

Scope of application

Reference frameworks: the general rules on chemical risk prevention and the specific regime for carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic agents, as set out in the labour code applicable to the site. The course provides a method; it does not produce the company's chemical risk assessment, which remains for the employer to carry out and document.
