What this course aims to achieve

Master all the steps of a quality management system audit under ISO 9001 to conduct third-party audits

A five-day course focused on leading an audit team: dividing the scope between auditors, arbitrating findings, running the meetings, and taking responsibility for the final report.

Key challenges

Two auditors on the same team rarely qualify the same finding in the same way. It falls to the audit team leader to decide, and to defend that decision in front of the auditee.
A badly divided multi-site audit leaves areas uncovered that the report nonetheless claims to have examined.
The closing meeting is where a well-run audit can be lost: a finding announced without evidence at hand is withdrawn on the spot.

Established practice in quality management system auditing
Several audits carried out as an auditor

Five days face-to-face, most of the time spent in role-plays

Teams formed on day one, with a full audit played out across the programme

Observation of team leadership against a competence grid

An audit report produced as a team and defended before the trainer

Scope of application

Reference frameworks: ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 19011, in particular its provisions on audit team leader competence. The course does not constitute appointment as an audit team leader: that remains the decision of the body forming the team.
